What does brand photography mean?

And how can you use it to connect with your customers?

Quite often when I tell someone that I am a brand photographer, it is immediately followed by:
“Is that, like, business photography then?”
“So that’s campaigns in magazines, right?”
“For events and things like that?
Sometime I even get an "oh okay" as they try and work out what that means exactly without letting on that they don’t actually know.
Most people will have never used a professional photographer before, and if they have it's usually for personal photography such as weddings or newborn photography, so I understand why someone may not immediately understand what I do until I tell them in more detail.

"So, what is brand photography?"
The straight forward, boring answer is that I take pictures of your business; you, your team, your premises, your products, your events, your campaigns.
I produce high-quality, stunning images that you can use to communicate your services to your audience.

“Cool, but what’s the non-boring answer?”
The real essence of what I really do? I capture your business in a way that reflects your unique story, personality, and values.
I get to know you;
Who you are
What you do as a business
Why you do what you do
What your goals are for the future
How you help solve the problems of others
What you are passionate about
The things you love to create/build/do/talk about
What really sets you apart from everyone else
What puts that fire in your belly!
And I capture that for you to use for your website, social media content, PR pieces, adverts, printed materials and more.

“That’s great, but why is all that personal stuff so important?”
Ask yourself:
How many other companies are in you field and do something similar to you?
How do you ensure that your business stands out from the crowd?
How do you communicate to your customers that you offer something unique?
How do your customers know at a glance whether you are a good fit for them?
How do you build trust with your customers?
Do your customers feel comfortable and confident that you can solve their problem?
Customers make purchasing based on emotions, and will decide to buy from you if they know, like, and trust you.
Showcasing your true, authentic self helps you connect with your audience on a deeper, more personal level.
Your audience might share or believe in your vision for the future, and buying into your business will bring them one step towards that shared goal.
They may see how you are trying to genuinely help them and develop a trust in you that they aren’t getting from your competitors.
Or they may see part of themselves in the things that you create and find inspiration in your story.
Audience as a result becomes invested in your success, because it becomes their success too. The hero’s journey that they can be a part of.

“Wow. I didn’t realise brand photography was so important”
Brand photography is just one piece of a puzzle that builds up a brand that your audience wants to get behind, but photography is super important for visual storytelling and should be an investment at the very beginning of your business journey.
Even just a well-crafted and intentional head shot could open up business opportunities because you were SEEN.
Brand photography can help you see yourself as the business owner you are, encourage you to celebrate your business wins, and give you the confidence you need to take the next steps in your business.

“That sounds amazing! How can I work with you?”
